The Swing Things finally back in action with some jazzy wedding reception music…It really was great to be back with the jazz boys at our first wedding in over 15 months on Friday. Due to the Covid restrictions there were limited numbers but there was a great atmosphere among the 30 guests who were determined to enjoy themselves despite everything! The band was a straight up 5 piece jazz band with voice, saxophone, drums, piano and double bass for the reception at Rudding Park Harrogate – one of our all time favourite venues. After the 1st dance, the Nat King Cole classic L-O-V-E we played a mix of Sinatra fav’s (of course!) and some Louis Armstrong inspired New Orleans street beat numbers including ‘Do You Know What It Means To Leave New Orleans’ and my new all time fav ‘La Vie En Rose’ as well as some swinging classics such as The Lady Is A Tramp. Not for the 1st time we competed with an England vs Scotland football for the attention of the guests. We certainly won with the lady’s who really got into the mood with some very careful socially distanced ‘swaying’. We probably lost the boys overall but as with the match itself I would say we came out of it with a creditable draw! Here we are in action on the night..
